Lentic System: standing waters

Lake
a large body of water surrounded by land


Pond
a fairly small body of still water


Playa Lake
Dry lakes are an ephemeral lakebed, generally extending to the shore, or a remnant of an endorheic lake


Swamp
an area of low-lying, uncultivated ground


Marsh
An area of low-lying land that is flooded in wet seasons or at high tide, and typically remains waterlogged at all times


Bog
wet muddy ground to soft too support heavy body.

Reservoir
a large natural or artificial lake used as a source of water supply
